Gigantic Post recently provided Audio Post Production services to Radical Media & Joe Berlinger for his film “Under African Skies”. Paul Simon‘s Grammy award winning album “Graceland”, that fuses traditional African music with his musical genius to form one of the greatest albums of all time, is turning 25 years old. Crazy how time flies! I remember sitting in my mom’s car listening to it over and over on cassette tape, remember those? Tracks like “You Can Call Me Al”, “Graceland” and “Diamonds on the Soul of Her Shoes” are classics.
In “Under African Skies”, we take a look behind the scenes on the making of the historic album along with the ramifications of Apartheid in South Africa. Simon was unaware of the how bad the situation was when he made the album, but when released endured heavy scrutiny over his decision to use South African musicians. At the heart of this movie is a great musical journey with incredible studio footage from the original sessions along with the band’s reunion show in South Africa. Let me tell you, they have not lost one beat. Simply amazing!
After previously working with Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky on their now Oscar nominated documentary “Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory”, Gigantic created a great sounding audio mix for “Under African Skies” that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last week to standing ovations. It is Paul Simon after all! Even Oprah said “Graceland” was her favorite album of all time!
