“Electrick Children” heads to Berlin Film Festival with a Gigantic seal of approval

Right as we speak, the new Rebecca Thomas film “Electrick Children” is being completed for a premiere at the Berlin Film Festival.  Gigantic called upon C.A. Sound‘s Coll Anderson to helm the boards and provide his signature to the Audio Mix in our Mix A.  We also recorded all the ADR and Foley in new high fidelity 32-bit audio.  Gigantic might be the first studio on the East Coast to use the new version of the audio editing software Pro Tools 10 to enable 32-bit floating point audio mixing, editing and recording.

“Electrick Children” is a coming of age story about a girl who learns about her family, herself, and love, through music.  With a great soundtrack and score, this film rocks!

“Under African Skies” celebrates Paul Simon & Graceland’s 25 year legacy

Gigantic Post recently provided Audio Post Production services to Radical MediaJoe Berlinger for his film “Under African Skies”.  Paul Simon‘s Grammy award winning album “Graceland”,  that fuses traditional African music with his musical genius to form one of the greatest albums of all time, is turning 25 years old.  Crazy how time flies!  I remember sitting in my mom’s car listening to it over and over on cassette tape, remember those?  Tracks like “You Can Call Me Al”, “Graceland” and “Diamonds on the Soul of Her Shoes” are classics.

In “Under African Skies”, we take a look behind the scenes on the making of the historic album along with the ramifications of Apartheid in South Africa.  Simon was unaware of the how bad the situation was when he made the album, but when released endured heavy scrutiny over his decision to use South African musicians.  At the heart of this movie is a great musical journey with incredible studio footage from the original sessions along with the band’s reunion show in South Africa.  Let me tell you, they have not lost one beat.  Simply amazing!

After previously working with Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky on their now Oscar nominated documentary “Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory”, Gigantic created a great sounding audio mix for “Under African Skies” that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last week to standing ovations.  It is Paul Simon after all!  Even Oprah said “Graceland” was her favorite album of all time!

Gigantic Post helps put finishing touches on award winning “Fishing Without Nets”

Gigantic Post recently worked with Cutter Hodierne, providing Audio and Video Post Production services for “Fishing Without Nets”, a film about Somali Pirates taken from the Somali point of view.  This beautifully shot 15-min action packed short is in the Somali language with subtitles.  The spoken dialect of the Pirates combined with shooting the film on location in Kenya gives “Fishing Without Nets” a hyper-realistic feel and the viewer begins to question if the film is a documentary.

But it is not.  It is a great story of the tough choices these young Somali men must face that lead them to plunder the seas around them.  By the end of the film, you are left wanting more and hopefully a full length feature film will supply that.

“Fishing Without Nets” went to Sundance film festival and came away with top honors winning the “Jury Prize in Shortfilmmaking”.  Needless to say we are thrilled and look forward to continuing our relationship with Mr. Cutter!
